W duchu renesansowego anturażu, barokowej kultury salonowej czy też legendarnych kręgów literatów chińskiej dynastii Song, małe grupy zainteresowanych gości będą miały okazję poszerzyć swoje horyzonty przy wtórze muzyki i czarce dobrej herbaty. MASTERPIECE znalazło swój dom w najpiękniejszej wiedeńskiej herbaciarni – ONE LEAF TEA LOUNGE… jednakże dalsze poszukiwania ekscytujących miejsc związanych z herbatą są już w planach.

Prowadzący Sven Schwannberger jest muzykiem i adeptem chadao. Jako herbaciarz pracuje głównie z herbatą chińską, zwłaszcza w tradycji chaozhou gongfu cha, którą stara się wiernie kultywować również na gruncie europejskim. Jako muzyk i muzykolog specjalizuje się w brzmieniach XVI i XVII wieku, realizuje się jako śpiewak, flecista i lutnik. Połączenie tych sztuk oraz badanie ich we współpracy z przyjaciółmi i bratnimi duszami jest dla niego nie tylko czymś konstruktywnym, ale po prostu niezbędnym do życia.

Dźwięk strun i smak herbaty wydają się idealnie do siebie pasować. Od wieków gra na guqin była nieodzownym elementem podczas herbacianych spotkań mandarynów. Brzmienie lutni, najszlachetniejszego i najbardziej poetyckiego ze wszystkich europejskich instrumentów smyczkowych, zostanie połączone z degustacją pierwszorzędnych herbat chińskich i japońskich z serii MASTERPIECE.

Bogaty repertuar utworów na lutnię będzie stanowić gwóźdź programu MASTERPIECE: Przedstawiona zostanie muzyka solowa Johna Dowlanda, francuskie tańce renesansowe, madrygały, chansony oraz wyrafinowany świat francuskiej lutni barokowej. Wyselekcjonowany dobór muzyki zostanie zaprezentowany wielokrotnie z niewielkimi różnicami pomiędzy parzeniami herbaty, by umożliwić uczestnikom głębsze zrozumienie tej muzyczno-herbacianej ceremonii.

Dobór najlepszej chińskiej porcelany, pochodzącej również ze słynnego regionu Yixing oraz antycznych utensyliów herbacianych z Chin i Japonii, a także ceramiki stworzonej przez czołowych europejskich ceramików, będzie stanowić bazę do przygotowania starannie wyselekcjonowanych herbat. Nie można bowiem mówić o rozkoszowaniu się smakiem herbaty bez docenienia używanych utensyliów.

MASTERPIECE is an ongoing series of afternoons in Vienna (and sometimes on tour…) devoted to the study and enjoyment of extraordinary teas and musical gemstones. They are hosted by Sven Schwannberger, a Viennese musician, musicologist and tea-person. In the tradition of Renaissance Accademie, baroque Salon-culture or the legendary literati circles of the Chinese Sòng dynasty, small groups of curious guests explore, enjoy and discuss the pieces and teas. MASTERPIECE has found its home in Vienna‘s most beautiful tea place, the ONE LEAF TEA LOUNGE… occasional visits to other exciting places for tea are planned.

Your Host Sven Schwannberger is a musician and a student of chadao. As a tea person he is mainly working on chinese tea, particularly chaozhou gongfu cha and its respectful adaptation to a European context. As a musician and musicologist, he is a specialist for the music of the 16th and 17th century, which he approaches as a singer, flautist and lute-player. The combination of those arts, and the collaboration on them with friends and soulmates is not only logical for him, but simply necessary for his life.

The sound of strings and the taste of tea seem to be a perfect match. Since many centuries in China the gǔqín has been played during tea gatherings of literati. The lute, being the most noble and most poetic of all european plucked string instruments will be combined with artisanal teas from China and Japan of the MASTERPIECE series.

The vast repertoire for lute and lute song will be in the center of the MASTERPIECE afternoons: Solo Music by John Dowland, french Renaissance Dances, Madrigals, Chansons and the refined world of the French Baroque lute will be presented. A small selection of music will be presented multiple times with slight variations between tea-infusions to allow a deeper understanding and enjoyment of the musical treasures.

A selection of finest chinese porcelain, Yixing pottery, ceramics by Europe’s leading tea pottery artists and also antique teaware from China and Japan will be used to prepare carefully chosen artisanal teas. Appreciation of tea and teaware has always been intertwined.
